In this episode, Lon Naylor of www.LearnCamtasia.com discusses a process that he uses to create podcast episodes of value from content that he has already created and/or published from his screencasts or videos.

Lon is himself a podcaster with his show, ScreenCastWeekly.com.
But Lon is mainly a screencaster, video content creator, blogger, instructor of PowerPoint video creation, Camtasia Studio mentor — with his membership site of LearnCamtasia.com.

This 20-minute segment of audio of Lon’s discussion was taken from a 50-minute webinar that he delivered.

27- Podcasting for Screencasters- Lon Naylor demo of a case study

In this episode, Lon Naylor discusses the value of podcasting skills, podcasting deliverables and podcast monetization for the Screencaster — and, vice-versa, with Fred Castaneda.

Lon Naylor is the principal of www.LearnCamtasia.com, which is a weekly Screencast coaching webinar membership site. He is also a podcaster, with his show called ScreencastWeekly.com.

In this discussion webinar, Fred Castaneda talks with Lon about the value of podcasting from the PODCASTER’s viewpoint.

In this discussion, a CASE STUDY is described, and the demonstration given by Lon Naylor shows how he created additional content in another format (screencasting from an audio podcast episode) by creating a visual and compelling presentation for the audience. This can be done in either PowerPoint(R) or Camtasia Studio(R).

You will note that Lon took an already existing and published audio podcast episode of 13 minutes, and then he:

– created the framework for the visual properties of the presentation;

– decided which theme, which font which design to use;

– added animations and effects (e.g., dissolves, transitions, fly-ins, etc.) to include in which specific visuals;

– added the musical score to enhance the existing podcast; and

– added the link to go and see the final screencast from this project.

26- Differentiating yourself and Brand in Podcasting- lessons from case studies

A major decision for most entrepreneurs is the one to enter a market that has a reputation of being “saturated.” The cause could be one of many reasons.

In this Bonus episode, we look into issues and concerns for the entrepreneur to either enter or continue in a saturated market — and we do so from real-life case studies of small businesses.

The first case study examines the risks and the suggested recommendations for looking at the product, service, offering or brand entry into a “saturated market.” These may include:

– confirming with research that you have a greater value offered to you target audience than what is currently available from competitors (again, a new added value at the right time, right place and right “formula”);

– confirming that there is an abundance mentality in the market to lower your risk of entry; and

– Your target audience belongs to a “niche” or “super-niche” of potentially loyal fans that have the NEED and WANT of what you are offering to deliver in value (or products, services or offerings or courses, etc.) and are passionate about the niche issues; or

– Your target audience is a proven one in the niche, and you may already have them as known followers for your current communications to them;

…and other factors.

Such is the case of the new course to be launched (along with its existing podcast show for creating awareness and exposure) that is called Podcasting for Screencasters.

The second case study concerns the decision to REMAIN in a market that is “saturated.” It is the 8-year old podcast show called The Struggling Entrepreneur — an interview-based show with entrepreneur guests, as well as other business content for the entrepreneur.

The reasons for continuing are given, and they include some of the following:

– You may already be getting great feedback and actions from your target audience, expressing their knowledge, their liking you and trusting you in various ways, especially communication with you;

– You may already have had some measure of “success” (which is defined differently for every entrepreneur) with your target audience, and your main objective would be to KEEP your current audience, while GROWING it with planned marketing strategy that turns into execution of a marketing plan for the marketing tactics; and

– Your objective may be to complete the path steps of

.    .Subject Matter expert ==>

.         .Problem-solver for your niche audience ==>

.            .Trusted advisor with proof of reference sales ==>

.                .THOUGHT LEADER for your target audience.

We also highlighted certain “take-aways” from this episode, including:

– asking yourself  (with a documented proposed plan of executing the four steps to success)  how YOU can become a Thought Leader.

– Confirming what is your documented of measure of success; and

– Documenting a planned exit strategy with alternatives, in case you do not succeed in this saturated market within a planned period of time.

16- Combining screencasts, podcasts & video — Dave Jackson discussion and an alternate “interview”

In this episode, we have a discussion about strategies to combine screencasting, audio podcasting and video for an entrepreneur business.

Key to this discussion is the description that Dave Jackson gives us about his business and multiple podcasts.  Dave is one of the very first podcasters in 2005, who is known as “The Podcast Coach” and headmaster of The School of Podcasting show and Premium Membership Site Program.

This is not only a live video-based google+ hangout on air, but also it is an audio podcast to which you can subscribe in iTunes(R).

ASK-the-Podcast-Coach-on-iTunesAs you will also hear in this audio episode, we also go into a discussion about how you, as a podcaster, screencaster or content creator can incorporate public info and published audio clips (such as from a podcast episode) to discuss themes, topics and issues that were previously talked about by a possible interviewee (but who may be unavailable — e.g., he may be so busy that this individual cannot participate in your show).

We take the example of Dave Jackson and his clip that was used in this episode — and then use this format to create content around the clip. For us, it is almost like having an interview without the interviewee in a live interview.

NOTE: However, you may wish to inform the content creator of the clip of content you wish to use, and also get permission from him (please see the section, below, called “SPECIAL NOTE AND ADDENDUM.”)

Dave Jackson had some comments about including his clip from his podcast show called Ask the Podcast Coach. He mentions it in episode 443 of his podcast show, School of Podcasting.

If you read the section titled “Creative Commons Licensing,” Dave suggests how this uneasiness can be addressed. It is by providing a Creative Commons License to your content. There are multiple Creative Commons License options.

The option that Dave provides is in his blog:

“This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.”

He also gives the link of https://creativecommons.org/licenses/

so that you can see for yourself the options and select the one that you wish to use to license your content.

STRATEGY HINT: On the positive side, one strategy to consider is that you may want to engage with people who WANT to use your content. By putting a Creative Commons Attribution license, you can encourage (and require) them to contact you for repurposing or publishing on their own content distribution and delivery systems. This is a good way to know who is engaged and to let you help them use your content. You may want to partner with them, etc.

09- Podcast success strategies for monetization – interview by Doug Foresta of Coachzing.com

Podcasting strategies for success and monetization are important to the screencaster and podcaster who improve the portfolio of skills and abilities to provide valuable content creation for clients.

The CoachZing Show is a podcast show series, available on iTunes(R) and other directories, which delivers interviews with entrepreneurs, coaches, therapists, authors and speakers — to discover tips and techniques for effective content creation and marketing. It is available on iTunes and other directories, and it is a free podcast show.

Doug Foresta is the interviewer and host of this podcast show.

In this episode, we have a repurposed interview — as it is originally published by CoachZing.com. The reason why we deliver it in entirety and unedited as the final mp3 file published by CoachZing is that the person being interviewed is Fred Castaneda, who is also one of the co-hosts of Skills in Screencasts and Podcasts, as well as the single host of The Struggling Entrepreneur podcast and the Podcast Reporter podcast (just some of the current active 8 shows).

06- Interview with Ray Ortega and Lon Naylor- Case study for Skills

Ray Ortega is a professional podcaster.  In addition to his own part-time entrepreneurial work as an audio podcaster (with his own shows like The Podcasters Studio and Podcasters Roundtable), his main day-job is that of a video podcaster for a non-profit organization.

In this episode, Ray delivers his story of how he creates video content and then repurposes it as an audio podcast, with the proper iTunes listing and feed to his audience — the Podcasters Roundtable.

In addition, Lon Naylor also describes the formula for repurposing audio podcast episodes into compelling, creative, visually engaging and message-driven screencasts with a good call-to-action.

He took an audio podcast episode from PodcastReporter.com; and then he added animation, visual images graphics and templates, as well as callouts, zooms, pans and other visual properties to create a quality screencast.  Podcasting quick tip as screencast:

In this episode’s quick tip, we deliver a screencast for the novice podcaster who has created their final wav file from a free editor (like Audacity) and now would like to encode it as a final mp3 file.

However, using the lame encoder in your podcast workflow path will not deliver the best audio quality if your episode is mainly dialogue or an interview (and not music). There is another mp3 encoder that is free to use, and it is within the iTunes(R) program. It can generate the mp3 final file with a higher quality encoder used for dialog.

This screencast link will walk you through how to (1) take your wav file and import it to iTunes; (2) how to prepare the settings in iTunes for quality mp3 encoding; (3) how to start and finish the mp3 encoding; and (4) how to copy your final mp3 file to your subdirectory for further processing (with mp3TagTools, for instance) or delivery to your media host.

Note: this screencast was created as the “raw” version in the workflow of short tutorial screencasts, which use the following steps:

(a) Create the total screencast using Camtasia Studio;

(b) Edit certain sections of the screencast in audio/video with Camtasia Studio (the result is what you see in this link, the “raw” video edited first draft);

While this screencast may suffice for most purposes, there is room for additional touching-up that can really make this screencast a better experience for the viewer/listener who is consuming this tutorial. The other parts of the workflow is what will be discussed in the upcoming course of Screencasting for Podcasters and will be:

(c) Adding animations, callouts and pan/zooms to enhance the visual engagement of the content; and finally,

(d) Adding the visual intro and outro content to complete the final screencast.

02- Podcasting for Screencasters

Lon Naylor from ScreencastStudios.com and LearnCamtasia.com delivers a tutorial and deconstruction of how an audio podcast of 13 minutes can be the basis in creating a screencast, with interesting visual story-telling and a call-to-action. He took a portion of an online webinar to help explain the benefits of podcasting to screencasters in this deconstruction, and he explains some of the tools and templates that he used or created to make this happen.

As you will hear in this audio episode, Lon Naylor’s deconstruction shows how a plan with a simple template and consistency can deliver a screencast that can meet the overall objectives of a call-to-action:

– consistent typestyle, typeface, font and color schemes;

– consistent visual layout, including a single graphic image and a single phrase for each of the nine elements of the presentation;

– bulleted lists can be used for lists, as they are “dissolved” in; and
