60- When Passion becomes a Prison- 3 steps to ignite again

54- Screencaster delivers free resources – Dean Haycox

In this episode, we interview Dean Haycox, the screencaster who is providing free resources to aspiring and professional screencasters. He is based out of the UK (United Kingdom), but he delivers his message and resources worldwide via his web site.

Dean is the owner of www.ScreencastMagazine.com — but the name is not totally descriptive, for it is really a blog that provides resources, show notes and the audio episodes of his audio podcast called SCREENCAST ACADEMY with Dean Haycox.

As you will hear in this audio interview, we cover Dean’s background — from logistics in the military to his full-time present job as an ambulance personnel. However, he has a passion for both geology and screencasting — and he recently launched his audio podcast on iTunes, with episode 11 as an interview with Matt Pierce of Techsmith.com.

In addition to some recommendations and tutorials, Dean also is making available his free pdf of 50 pages called THE SCREENCASTERS BLUEPRINT (a free 50-page guide to Video Marketing for Small Business Owners that describes How to successfully grow your business with video marketing).

53- Screencasts — 8 types of deliverables for you

In this episode, we discuss the eight major deliverables that can be incorporated to create effective Screencasts. We also describe some major software programs and tools for creating and editing the screencasts. And finally, we discuss which programs we ourselves use and why, as well as how you can improve your business by being a subject matter expert, or by offering services in screencasting for hire.

 

Skills in Screencasts and Podcasts-2014

The first part reviews 8 different deliverables by creating screencasts:

1.  Synchronized screen capture — that is, audio and video (used quite a bit for software demos);

2. Full-motion videos — your created content (e.g., from amateur smart phone cameras or from more sophisticated cameras);

3. Documentaries, b-roll, or other videos and video clips;

4. Powerpoint (R) presentations with synchronized audio and video animations, etc.

5. Interactivity in training with quizzes, hotspots, links, etc.

6. Video effects and animations — e.g., callouts, zooms, pans, lower thirds, more movement animations, etc.

7. Audio segments, audio clips, music, sound effects, etc.

8. Tutorials for creating courses, training, education, eLearning, etc.

Also known in the industry as “Mr. LearnCamtasia,” Lon describes how online video training courses and tutorials can be a great opportunity for New Media Professionals — especially for Podcasters.

This was not a sales pitch — in fact, this was delivered as a benefit for the New Media Community, and it was intended for those who were considering creating online video tutorials and training courses, but did not know if it was for them or where to start.

As you will hear in this audio episode, we have taken and delivered to you about 20 minutes of Lon’s content, in which he explains and describes:

– the benefits of video online courses and tutorials;

– the tools which a New Media Professional or podcaster will need to create professional courses (of course, he focuses on the recorder and editor product from TechSmith called Camtasia Studio);

– the requirements for creating the content for video online courses — especially for monetizing them; and

– the tools available for delivering the educational and training content of your courses to potential students.

NOTE: In the latter part of this audio episode, Lon describes some of the features that sets Camtasia Studio apart from other video tools which do not have built-in feature-rich multi-track editors. However, Lon does a very good job of describing in detail in audio what you would normally see on the screen, so that you can easily visualize and understand what he is explaining. Thus, it is not really necessary for you to view the video.

This end-of-year episode delivers a Podcaster’s perspectives for Podcast Conferences for upcoming 2016 — and beyond.

38- Leveraging new apps for your podcasts- like blab.im

In this episode, we attempt to address the buzz and popularity of such live-streaming tools with multiple purposes (like Meerkat, Periscope and blab.im) from the point of view of the Podcaster and a strategy for both content creation and distribution.

We have included some proof-points with some audio clips taken from episode 62 of Paul Colligan’s podcast show called The Podcast Report.

Paul Colligan - public speakerAs you will hear in this audio episode, Paul describes a strategy that he delivered since 2009 when he coined the descriptor phrase of The New Media Content Creation Model.  And we support that strategy as  Podcasters who are trying to integrate these new apps and tools into both:

– content creation

and

– content distribution.

Some of us in the podosphere call these new apps “toys” or “shiny new objects” with which we can become obsessed and enamored (even though some of them may still be in beta). We feel that it is important that your strategy for podcasting can integrate these apps so that they are part of your New Media toolbox, and where you can leverage them best by using their strengths to ENHANCE your strategy and your business model — and NOT to replace your podcasting execution by losing time and using other resources you need so you can march to your planned success.

And you will also hear in this audio episode about a possible hidden drawback by focusing on some of these tools too directly — e.g., you may have to commit to do MORE WORK to add the right assets (music, audio intro, outro, sponsorship clips, voice-over, additional encoding, posting and publication, etc.) to create a good podcast episode from the content of these apps.

29- Considerations on Podfading

Although we like to think positively and aspire that our podcast shows will go on forever and grow forever, we take a look at the reality of the environment in podcasting.

In this episode, we review some of the reasons for considering podfading your podcast show — all the way from burnout to a “fade-out, then fade-in” to begin another new podcast show, but with revitalized passion. Many of them deal with real-life situations and cases-in-point.

Some of the reasons given are:

-.Complications due to Health or age

– Too many podcast shows where you cannot do justice to them;

– Podcasting isn’t “fun” any more;

– Passion is fading;

– Just want podcasting to be no more than a “hobby”;

– Loss of your co-host or JV Partner;

– Decline of interest from your listeners or community, thus a decline of listeners;

– Cannot meat business objectives when podcasting is your business;

– Loss of money in podcasting (“don’t throw good money after bad”)
