42- Podcaster gives perspective of Podcast Conferences for 2016–and beyond

This end-of-year episode delivers a Podcaster’s perspectives for Podcast Conferences for upcoming 2016 — and beyond.

Podcast conferences 2016ff

The eight main “conferences” or “meetings” for Podcasters (and, to some extent, New Media Professionals) are:

New Media Expo (aka NMX)

Podcast Movement (aka PM)

Consumer Electronics Show (CES)

National Association of Broadcasters Show (NAB)

Podfest Florida or Podfest Tampa

LA Podfest

Podcamps

Local Podcast Meetups (via www.meetup.com)

Each of these are mentioned. There is also a backstory to the change of preferences for the value of these conferences, and a hint of some issues that may be haunting some of the more successful shows that delivered value at one time to the podcasting community.

From the large national conferences (like NMX and Podcast Movement), we also deliver some perspectives on the REGIONAL and local podcast conferences, meetups and Podcamps. I myself will deliver my perspectives, since I have been a speaker at the main national conferences, as well as a Podcast Meetup Organizer and a speaker at many Podcamps.

Finally, I apologize to all my listeners, since I had a forced absence due to not only technical problems and a failure and replacement of my main system for podcasting, but also for being caught up with a bed-ridden flu and bronchitis that rendered me unable to deliver any value to you, my audience.

To all of you, I wish you a happy holiday season and a bright next year for your success as a New Media Professional and podcaster.

39- Google announces Podcast support

In this dated episode, we deliver a summary of the announcement by Google to finally support podcasts, and we also have links to key resources that give you the details and what they mean to you, as a Podcaster.

Link for google play music

As you will hear in this brief bonus episode, you can get a good summary and most of the key information from Ray Ortega in his bonus episode of The Podcasters Studio at www.thepodcastersstudio.com.

In addition, Ray’s podcast episode has links to the episode in which Rob Walch of The Feed podcast show interviews Elias Roman, the manager of the Google Project.

And here are other resources that are mentioned, either with links or by name:

(1) Daniel J Lewis — he has a brief Youtube video showing you how to submit your podcast to this project;

(2) Ileane Smith — her positive summary of this announcement;

(3) The link to The Feed episode with the interview by Rob Walch;

(4) Paul Figgiani and his concerns in the google+ community of The Podcasters;

(5) Mike Dell of the blubrry network, who had concerns.

More information should be coming — especially the time frame when the podcast listeners will be able to access and consume the podcasts (which is now stated by google as “as soon as possible.”

The link to submit your podcast to this project is:

38A- Clarification on episode about Leveraging New Apps

CLARIFICATION and CORRECTION

NOTE: This episode delivers a clarification from the preceding episode on Leveraging New Apps like meerkat, periscope and blab.

My apologies for the misunderstanding that was caused by my statements about Dave Jackson and his production of Ask the Podcast Coach podcast show. I want to thank Dave for sending me the correction, and this episode delivers it.

Also, in this episode, we give a brief summary of Gary Leland’s explanation given in a 55-minute video delivered in his subscription-based electronic magazine called Podertainment. The explanation given by Gary is in the October, 2015, issue of the Podertainment magazine.

The corrections have been included in this audio episode, and we recommend that you listen to the entire content.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

38- Leveraging new apps for your podcasts- like blab.im

screncastartwork2048

In this episode, we attempt to address the buzz and popularity of such live-streaming tools with multiple purposes (like Meerkat, Periscope and blab.im) from the point of view of the Podcaster and a strategy for both content creation and distribution.

We have included some proof-points with some audio clips taken from episode 62 of Paul Colligan’s podcast show called The Podcast Report.

Paul Colligan - public speakerAs you will hear in this audio episode, Paul describes a strategy that he delivered since 2009 when he coined the descriptor phrase of The New Media Content Creation Model.  And we support that strategy as  Podcasters who are trying to integrate these new apps and tools into both:

– content creation

and

– content distribution.

Some of us in the podosphere call these new apps “toys” or “shiny new objects” with which we can become obsessed and enamored (even though some of them may still be in beta). We feel that it is important that your strategy for podcasting can integrate these apps so that they are part of your New Media toolbox, and where you can leverage them best by using their strengths to ENHANCE your strategy and your business model — and NOT to replace your podcasting execution by losing time and using other resources you need so you can march to your planned success.

And you will also hear in this audio episode about a possible hidden drawback by focusing on some of these tools too directly — e.g., you may have to commit to do MORE WORK to add the right assets (music, audio intro, outro, sponsorship clips, voice-over, additional encoding, posting and publication, etc.) to create a good podcast episode from the content of these apps.

We encourage you to go to The Podcast Report show and listen to episode 62, in which Paul Colligan discusses his model and this situation with these apps in more detail.

We thank Paul Colligan for his ideas and his sharing of his New Media Content Creation model, so that we can help ourselves to become better podcasters without having to be distracted and cry “Squirrel!” when new technology appears — however attractive it may be.

37- Discussing the VALUE to Podcasters of PODCASTERS SOCIETY with Daniel J Lewis

podcasters-society-tall

We deliver an interview with Daniel J Lewis., the podcaster and founder of the NoodleMix Network at www.noodle.mx, as well as The Audacity to Podcast show, along with other podcasts.

During this interview, we discuss the VALUE to podcasters that is delivered by PODCASTERS’ SOCIETY, as well as the future directions and other features available in this membersship site.

As you will hear in this audio episode, this membership site that was announced and open since August, 2015, actually had its beginnings in 2014, when Daniel J Lewis wanted to deliver value to the podcasters who wanted to IMPROVE or ENHANCE their podcast by taking the level from just “average to AMAZING”. This idea sprung from the value delivered from a previous course that Daniel created and taught earlier called Podcast Master Class.

In addition, Daniel shares with us how his early objectives are being met, as well as his monetization strategies with this program — especially with all the features, forum, conversations and community aspects of the Podcasters’ Society Experience.

One feature to note for all podcasters is that a monthly guest will be spotlighted in a live webinar (with replay available for 36 hours after). This webinar will be open for the 2 days to everyone (but after that, it will only be available for replay to the members of Podcasters’ Society).

Daniel J Lewis-squareDaniel J. Lewis, creator of the Podcasters’ Society Program

As an Entrepreneur, Daniel has gone from a web designer and graphic designer to full-time podcaster, to a podcast-network-manager, and now to creating a “COLLABORATION MENTORSHIP” (that is the descriptive phrase that I coined for this membership site after I had joined it in late August) — of course, with Daniel J Lewis as the key “mentor.”

Some final differentiators of this site from most of the other membership sites in podcasting are:

(1) The Program does NOT focus on teaching others HOW TO PODCAST — that is, there is no mention of what hardware, software, plug-ins and other resources to acquire and how to use them to plan, produce, launch and promote a new podcast show.

In fact, Daniel vets his potential members by requiring them to have a podcast already launched and available in iTunes. Clearly, this program is not for aspiring podcasters, but for those who have some experience in podcasting already.

(2) Daniel’s program does not focus on Monetization of a podcast show. The road to making money with a podcast is an additional path that can be taken, but this site focuses on helping those who want to create a better podcast show, even if they are non-profit, or public service, or public sector or even HOBBY PODCASTERS. In other words, monetization is fine, but the program does not obsess over making money with podcasting — although discussions are welcome and community conversations are active in the member site forum.

Instead, the real focus of the program rotates around what Daniel considers the 4 Cornerstones of Podcasting — and he mentions and describes them in the audio episode.

35- Expand your Brand by producing content with NLS

In this episode, we explore a little-used tactic for Entrepreneurs who are content creators to:

– expand your reach;

– Grow your audience;

– Increase your listeners;

– Promote and expand your Brand;

– Add more followers, readers, listeners and viewers.

This tactic is to LEVERAGE your already produced content by translating it into another language and publishing it.

The cases-in-point here are in the environment of podcasting — the podosphere, because the comparisons can be made to other New Media areas. There was an attempt to have a workshop for Spanish-speaking podcasters called SOY PODCASTER.

Soy Podcaster exampleAs you will hear in this audio episode, we give you the details for taking advantage of the opportunity by publishing your content as a podcast in Spanish (or “castellano”).

In addition to Spain, there are over a dozen more countries in Latin America, Central America, Mexico and South America that would love to consume your content.

There are two ways to provide this additional “National Language Support” for your content (as a podcast):

(1) If you are a native Spanish speaker, you can translate your existing content from English to Spanish and then publish the audio episode, along with show notes from a translation.

(2) If you are NOT a native speaker, you can create a joint venture partnership with a skilled and professional Spanish Speaker who is a podcaster who can:

– create the outline in Spanish;

– build the show notes in Spanish;

– translate the English content;

– record and edit the episode in Spanish; and

– provide for you the show notes and final mp3 file.

We have included in the audio episode the few minutes of a simple promotional episode in Spanish.

But you can consume 2 of the promotional episodes for Podcamp San Antonio from 2007 and 2008 by selecting these links:

34- What is your END GAME goal in New Media

Whether you are a podcaster, screencaster, video-content-creator, blogger or ebook author,  we explore in this episode the questions that you need to ask about your current and future “END GAME” goals in New Media, as well as the importance of periodic review and possible revision of them.

screncastartwork2048

With cases in point and other examples, we investigate these questions (which we suggest that you ask of your New Media assets and deliverables):

1. MONETIZATION goals;

2. EDUTAINMENT goals (that is, Entertainment and/or Education);

3. Goal to build a loyal COMMUNITY;

4. What part of YOURSELF will you put into your podcast or screencast or videocast?

5. Is your goal to help COMMUNICATE and deliver your message?

6. Camaraderie goals from a common experience;

or

7. Goal to participate in a key EVENT within your New Media or Podcast space (e.g., International Podcast Day)?

In fact, we have one case-in-point video that is only a few minutes in length, but can give you the key END-GAME goal for Screencasters who want to raise the value of their skills portfolio to increase their brand, their exposure and their opportunity for success and monetization:

33- In-depth interview with DISRUPTION Podcaster- Tom Schwab

In this episode, we deliver a repurposed episode from the Struggling Entrepreneur podcast. We have an in-depth interview with an Entrepreneur who is a DISRUPTER in the monetization environment in podcasting — mainly because he is committed NOT to be a podcaster. That is, he is committed to be a GUEST of podcasting interviews and create revenue streams in his entrepreneurship.

Tom Schwab and free bookThe entrepreneur is Tom Schwab. He has a business in which he leverages the results of his being a guest on podcasts:

– he turns his listeners into LEADS;

– he turns his leads into buying CUSTOMERS;

– he nurtures the customers into loyal ADVOCATES.

As you will hear in this audio episode, Tom is a Navy veteran.  Tom is a specialist in processes and systems. This has helped him to develop the content for his:

– services;

– ebook content; and

– online course content.

As you will hear, Tom has offered a 50 per cent discount for any of his premium offerings — that is, the online course and/or consulting services. All you have to do is mention to Tom that you heard about this in this podcast episode.

32- PODCASTERS SOCIETY program helps podcasters take their show to AMAZING levels

Especially for screencasters who are contemplating adding podcasting to their New Media portfolio and skill set — as well as screencasters who recently joined the podcasting community by adding published podcasts into the podosphere — there is a new program announced on 20August2015 from Daniel J. Lewis that can help these people get on the FAST TRACK to grow their podcast show to a level that is named “AMAZING.”

PS web site pageThis episode focuses on the launch and announcement of a new premium membership site ONLY for podcasters who already have a podcast published in iTunes(R).

And remember: podcasts can be video podcasts, as well as audio podcasts.

The program is called PODCASTERS SOCIETY at podcasterssociety.com (2 middle s’s). [Editor’s note: the apostrophe was  omitted due to technical issues with tags in this post]

This premium offering and program comes to you via Daniel J Lewis, podcaster for The Audacity to Podcast.

As you will hear in this audio podcast episode is my initial perspective after I had joined the program. My reasons for joining and hopes for value are included in the audio podcast.

I consider this more of a “mentorship collaboration” program, with a site that provides webinars that are premium, as well as some guest webinars that allow anyone to consume the latter for free for a day or two only.

This episode describes, from my viewpoint, the value that is promised and the types of collaboration that will be available:

– interactive webinars within the community;

(note: there will be a webinar with a special subject-matter-expert guest each month, and this will be open to the public–including a replay– but only for a couple of days, after which it will be available only to the members of PODCASTERS SOCIETY)

– networking;

– discussions;

– Q and A

FORA for different discussion items (n.b.: “forums” is not correct, since FORUM and FORA  are from the Latin word forum, whose plural is “fora” — very much like: the plural of criterion is criteria. Sorry to be pic., but isn’t nice to know what is correct?);

– One note that is good news for us: There is NOT yet another private facebook group with this program! That’s what the fora offer.

– Chat with the Slack program;

– Teams with intercommunication helping of each other;

and

– more focused expertise from Daniel J Lewis to the members in other avenues (e.g., via webinar Q/A, via discounts, etc.).

FORA with off-topic RANTThere is a replay webinar available to describe the program, along with the initial pricing that expires on 10 September 2015 at:

http://app.webinarjam.net/replay/17740/94bb05a7a1/0/lw7118838a1

Note: please excuse the 2 audio clips in this episode, which I included as part of “dry humor” for the content theme.

Finally, now that I have joined, I will be able to provide more details about this type of membership site and the value it has specifically for podcasters — and that this is NOT yet another program that teaches you how to podcast as a beginner.

Note: Please be advised that charter membership will end on September 10th of 2015.

31- Monetizing podcasts by NOT STARTING one: a new Model

Tom Schwab and free book

In this brief audio episode, we focus on a new model by Entrepreneur Tom Schwab on monetizing podcasts.

His program produces results BY NOT CREATING OR STARTING YOUR OWN PODCAST — but rather, by being a GUEST on the podcast shows of others.

In a recent webinar, he outlined his four elements:

(1) Delivering a 6-step approach to being scheduled as a guest on an audio episode of a podcast show;

(2) Explaining how to get LEADS from GUEST appearances;

(3) Delivering the process of how to nurture the leads into PAYING CUSTOMERS; and

(4) Delivering the final explanation of how to turn customers into ADVOCATES.

At his web site of http://www.tmschwab.com/ , Tom shows one of his key recommendations — that is, creating a landing page for each guest appearance.

For more information, you can go to www.tmschwab.com.

At this blog, Tom provides you with the information about his book, his online course and his webinars. You can also join his blog following.
